I find that as long as they know WHY I want them to do a certain thing (and that it's usually because I want them to learn more Spanish) I can put my foot down when it really matters, give when it doesn't.Jalenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04215145953021037097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-706391172520946061.post-5127014103939791032015-07-28T09:49:39.223-07:002015-07-28T09:49:39.223-07:00Jalen, I teach the same socioeconomic group. They want to know why you expect certain behaviors. Why is this important? How is this relevant to me? They even have given me classroom management and curriculum suggestions. If I think about it, it's pretty awesome that I have students who have ideas for improvement, even if it annoys me. I've had to adjust my classroom to become a diplomatic place because of this brand of student. And so, they actually have a lot of say in how class goes, even though I have the ultimate veto power. It works really well most days. But then, there are always those days when they want to be lazy and everyone votes for a "let's have class outside, where it's windy and distracting and we never accomplish much." So, I have to constantly give and pull back. let them feel they have an opinion that matters, but remind them who is in charge.charlaguayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00802426451009236954noreply@blogger.com
